Pastoral Job Description:  Minister of Music

Type of Position: Full-time

Compensation: Available upon request

Candidate Requirements / Work Experience:  Must demonstrate adequate music ministry experience.

Education:  College degree and formal theological training preferred, but not required.

Principal Function:  Direct and lead a blended music ministry, being well-versed and comfortable with both traditional and modern/contemporary worship styles, including all ages of choirs, praise team music group, and instrumentalists.

Qualifications:  A candidate must be:

  • A born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
  • Godly and called to music ministry, with a pastor’s heart, who loves God’s people and desires to use music as a means of equipping and edifying the church.
  • Maintain a consistent personal witness.
  • Keep a supportive, communicative relationship with other staff members.
  • Organized, be able to manage several ongoing tasks, possessing good people skills, self-motivated, able to work well individually and in groups.


  • Participate faithfully in the functions of the church and its organizations.
  • Assist the pastor in planning and leading the church’s weekly services.
  • Responsible for overseeing the responsibilities of both audio and visual needs in all worship services. Be media and computer literate, familiar with music/worship programs and technologies.
  • Plan and coordinate music for the weekly services in such a way that it leads to genuine worship of our Lord.
  • Coordinate the planning and conducting of a comprehensive graded music program.
  • Responsible for overseeing the work of all existing choirs and ensembles and creating opportunities for each group to participate in worship services, outreach opportunities, and community service.
  • Responsible for recruiting directors for children’s choirs and for assisting the directors as needed.
  • Plan and lead regularly scheduled choir rehearsals.
  • Supervise and encourage training of instrumentalists. Participate with Personnel Committee in selection of paid pianist, organist, and substitutes.
  • Share with the staff in pastoral care, nurture, hospital visits, counsel, weddings, funerals, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
  • Oversee the work of the custodians.
  • Responsible for helping to accommodate the needs of assigned church committees as staff liaison.
